LADUE • Police and firefighter/paramedics who responded to the shooting March 28 of a woman on the parking lot of a Schnucks here got a personal thank you from the victim and special praise from city officials Monday night.

Those receiving plaques included Police Officers Austin Medlin and Julia Crews, as well as firefighter/paramedics Capt. Gary Kreitler, Lt. Clayton Boyd, Ryan Nadler, Kyle Luttrell, Chris Dill and Nick Hartley.

Police Chief Rich Wooten said that Medlin, that morning, was on patrol and heard five or six gunshots coming from the Schnuck’s parking lot at 10275 Clayton Road, saw a blue van driven by a man speeding from the lot, radioed a description of the man to Ladue dispatch, and saw that a woman, Kat Hutson, was lying on the ground and had been shot several times. Wooten Medlin and Crews administered first aid until firefighter/paramedics arrived.

“Because of your quick response and the first aid administered to the victim, she survived,” Wooten told both.

Fire Chief Steve Lynn praised the quick ambulance response, and “our guys played a significant role in this great outcome.”

“This is a great example of how our good training yields great results,” Spewak said.

“I thank you all,” said Hutson, who is continuing to recover and was at the meeting for the presentation.

Police say Hutson was shot by her estranged husband, who later shot and killed himself.
