The long-delayed Loop Trolley's most recent target period for beginning operations — sometime in the late spring — won't be met.

Joe Edwards, who heads the trolley's transportation development district, said Thursday that backers of the line now hope that they'll be given the go-ahead by federal and state regulators to start service sometime in July.

But he said a date has yet to be set. Spring ends on June 21.

"Everybody is waiting on Federal Transit Administration approval'' and on approval from the Missouri Department of Transportation as testing of the trolley line continues, he said.

The line will run from the western end of the Delmar Loop in University City to the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park.
