ST. LOUIS • A man from Charlack died Saturday in St. Louis after losing control of his car and crashing into a vacant building near Minerva Avenue and Goodfellow Boulevard, police say.

The building collapsed onto the car, trapping the driver, Craig Phillips. Phillips died at the scene.

The crash site is in the city's Hamilton Heights neighborhood of St. Louis, which is northeast of the Delmar Loop.

Phillips, 31, lived in the 5600 block of Leverette Avenue in Charlack. Police say Phillips had been speeding west on Minerva in a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. The vehicle crashed in the 5800 block of Minerva Avenue about 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

Accident-reconstruction investigators with the St. Louis Police Department are handling the case.
