St. Andrews Cinema in St. Charles will remain open after previously announcing plans to close after Labor Day weekend.
A message on the theater's website says the cinema will remain open beyond Sept. 1 and that new management will take over before the end of the year.
In June, Harman Moseley, whose family bought the theater in 1981, told the Post-Dispatch the cinema was facing challenges, including competing with online streaming services like Netflix.
St. Andrews is one of the last "dollar show" theaters in the area where for $1 dollar moviegoers can see so-called "second-run" movies.
The theater is located near Interstate 70 and Zumbehl Road.
