PIKE COUNTY • A man in a horse-drawn buggy and the driver of a 2003 Cadillac Escalade suffered moderate injuries in a crash earlier today in Pike County.

The driver of the buggy failed to yield at an intersection, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.

The accident happened at about 11 a.m. on Route Y, south of Pike County Road 482. Amos R. Eicher, 41, of Bowling Green, was driving the horse and buggy north on Y and Janet A. Black, 49, of Bowling Green, was driving south in the Escalade. The buggy failed to yield as it made a left turn in front of the Escalade, and the front of the Escalade hit the right side of the buggy.

Both were taken to a hospital via ambulance.

Pike County is the home to a significant Amish community, and several Amish-owned businesses there produce and sell items such as cabinets, candy and other household items.
