Regarding “Plan would combine crime statistics” (Sept. 19):
Why would St. Louis County even consider combining its crime statistics with St. Louis city? “This is not about lowering crime" and it's "a win-win for the entire region,” says Police Chief Tim Fitch.
What it does is allow the city to falsely brag its violent crime rate has decreased from 1776.5 to 938.3 while the county rate fraudulently increases from an actual figure of 256.5 to 938.3 per 100,000 residents. This is a win-win for St. Louis County?
Altering the figures doesn’t make it safer for those living in these high violent crime areas. St. Louis will still be "one of America’s most dangerous cities.” The only way to reduce St. Louis’ high crime rate reputation is to fix the problem.
Don’t shove this down our throats. Let St. Louis County voters have a say. My vote will be no.
