Des Peres shows support for new attraction behind bar

Des Peres shows support for new attraction behind bar

I’d like to offer clarification on Cathy Lenny’s article (online Jan. 16) regarding The Village Bar petitioning for a conditional use permit to transform the historic barn behind the bar into a micro-distillery.

It has already been approved for event space. This will bring a new attraction to the community of Des Peres while revitalizing a historic landmark to be shared with residents. It would bring new patrons to the city and contribute to the continued financial success of the city and its residents. The Village Bar has received overwhelming support from the community and local businesses.

The article's closing sentence referenced a petition with 69 signatures that were against the distillery but failed to include the petition at City Hall with more than 285 Des Peres residents and businesses in favor of the concept and more than 1,000 signatures from the surrounding area.

The Village Bar is an intricate part of Des Peres and has been a staple and continuous business going back to 1879. The overwhelming local and surrounding community support helps keep Des Peres a progressive city, and it takes a community to make The Village Bar.
