Need cooperation between Democrats and Republicans

Even in victory, the Democratic administration will still need Republicans, not alone for legislative achievement but for the general good of all if the nation is to maintain its mission at home and abroad.

Obviously Republicans have both soul-searching and mending to do. It was sad that George W. Bush's noble rhetoric of "compassionate conservatism" too easily became the old cynical saying, "I feel for you but can't reach you." Perhaps as they reform, their stance can be one of "constructive conservatism" rather than the erosion and destruction brought about by gridlock.

Of course, the infrastructure of the land needs rebuilding. But a first step would be the genuine cooperation and mutual respect which would strengthen the spiritual foundations that hold our past and future history.
