Congratulations on the announcement that $178.2 million was raised in private funding to overhaul the Gateway Arch grounds and connect it to downtown ("Final funding drive for Arch," April 26). Most of this private funding was provided by individuals, corporations and foundations and shows what we can accomplish as a community when we focus on a common goal.
Another $160 million was raised through grants and various government sources and revenue from a sales tax in St. Louis city and county. Now we need to focus on the remaining $73 million, but let's not forget as a community we still need to address the East St. Louis riverfront and completion of the Gateway Mall to 22nd Street, as these projects are part of the Arch plan. If we can raise this much money, I know we can complete all three projects and move our community forward.
