Shelter Insurance® to Honor Flags of Valor Founder Rick Randall

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Shelter Insurance® will be honoring Flags of Valor founder, Rick Randall, with one of the company’s most prestigious awards. Shelter CEO and President, Randa Rawlins, will be presenting the Fred V. Heinkel Award of Excellence to Randall at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 10, at the top of Art Hill (Forest Park) at the St. Louis Art Museum.

“What Rick is doing to show everyone the sacrifices so many have made so we can live in freedom is inspiring,” said Randa Rawlins, CEO and President of the Shelter Insurance Companies. “Shelter Insurance® is grateful for Rick’s efforts to make sure every brave service man and woman who gave the ultimate sacrifice is remembered. Awarding him with the Shelter Insurance® Fred V. Heinkel Award for Excellence is our way of thanking him for everything he and his team are doing."

Shelter Insurance® has presented the annual award, named after the company’s first president and chairman, since 1982 to people that have demonstrated excellence in one or more areas that include science, medical, research, health services, education, history, agriculture, athletics or overall community service. Each recipient is nominated by a Shelter employee or agent. The winner is then chosen by the Board of Directors of Shelter’s charitable organization, the Shelter Insurance® Foundation. Each winner is also given a $2,500 award. Randall requested his check be made out to America’s Heartland Remembers, the charitable organization supporting service men and women.

“I am so honored to be receiving this award from Shelter Insurance®,” Randall said. “We wouldn’t be able to honor these men and women without the help of hundreds of others. This award is as much of theirs as it is mine and I thank them for that.”

This award presentation is in conjunction with the weeklong Flags of Valor event honoring the victims of 9/11 in Forest Park. More than 7,000 American flags will remain on the park grounds until Sunday. Everyone is welcome to see the sights during the parks operating hours. You can find more information about the event on the Flags of Valor site.
