Huge Cactus and Succulent Sale Returns to St. Louis

We're back!

Plenty of healthy -- and diverse -- succulents and cacti will be available for purchase. In addition, visitors can view a special display of amazingly unique succulent plants.

Henry Shaw Cactus and Succulent Society invites all plant fans to help celebrate its 80th birthday and shop the extensive selection of plants and pots at HSCSS' annual Show and Sale, to be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 16 and 17 at Glaziers Hall, 5916 Wilson Ave. in St. Louis.

Ongoing construction and renovation at Missouri Botanical Garden, the event's longtime home, moved the Show and Sale to this new venue for 2022.

Noted vendors J & J Cactus and Succulents from Oklahoma City and Drummond Nursery from De Soto, Mo., will offer an abundance of plants for sale. Novice gardeners can start with small, easy-to-grow plants, while serious enthusiasts will see hard-to-find specimen cacti and succulents.

Peruse the unusual handmade pots from Carol Wichern Ceramics of Perryville, Mo., and Giessow Pottery of Brentwood, Mo. HSCSS members will round out the sale selection with more succulent-related items.

In addition, diverse plants from around the world will be on display as HSCSS members show their best specimens. Both beautiful and sometimes bizarre, these plants illustrate the strange shapes, odd textures and other surprising features that cacti and succulents have developed to address their arid natural environments.

Admission to the Show and Sale is free. Club members will be on hand to answer questions, assist with purchases and distribute a general plant care sheet. Children 3 to 15 years old can get a free starter plant at the Kids Corner.

For further information about the Show and Sale and other HSCSS activities, visit or contact Mike Hellmann, or 618-444-7860.

Henry Shaw Cactus and Succulent Society is the largest succulent club in the Midwest. Affiliated with Missouri Botanical Garden and the Cactus and Succulent Society of America, its mission is to promote and increase knowledge of the culture, propagation and conservation of cacti and other succulent plants. Now in its 80th year, the group welcomes new members.
