The Burney Sisters, will release their new single, “Make Me Happy” on Friday, September 13, followed by the video release for the single the following Friday, September 20.
Inspired by their ever-evolving musical interests—most recently The Ramones, The Clash, Modest Mouse and Stella Donnelly—the new single has a different bent than previous releases. Olivia, older sister and songwriter, says that this song speaks with a language that is reflective of her generation. “I feel that, these days, young people are more understanding and open and sometimes it’s about not being so freaked out by things…that is how I want to be and this new song…has that vibe.”
“Make Me Happy” is playful and upbeat while maintaining a driving rhythm and unique vocals. The duo’s early pop influences are apparent from the ease with which the melody loops in one’s ear. However, lyrically, there is a mature acceptance in knowing that people are imperfect but still worth loving. “You make me happy cause it’s just the little things/like holding your hand telling me everything you think…I don’t care what I’m missing, as long as I’m with you/You aren’t the best but I guess I will make do.”
