Good Shepherd Children & Family Services Recognizes Rich and Jill Benkelman with John Basilico Service Award

July 2022 (St. Louis, MO) –– Good Shepherd Children and Family Services has chosen Rich and Jill Benkelman to receive the John Basilico Service Award. Rich is the former Board President for Good Shepherd, and both Benkelmans have been long-time volunteers and supporters of the organization.

“It is rare to have friends who support your organization as broadly as Rich and Jill have ours,” said Executive Director Kathy Fowler. “They are donors, hands-on volunteers, and leaders. They have shaped our agency in countless ways for the better.”

Rich Benkelman has served as chairman of the annual Good Shepherd Golf Tournament since 2009; the tournament raised over $153,000 in 2022 and nearly $2 million date. As volunteers, Rich and Jill, along with their son, Trey, have cooked turkeys during the holidays, helped new mothers in the maternity shelter with chores like laundry or rocking babies, and opened their home for special events.

The award is named for John Basilico, a charter member of the Good Shepherd Children and Family Services Board of Directors. He was a crucial part of merging four existing Catholic Charities nonprofits, which had a history dating back to 1831, into what has become today’s Good Shepherd. His work exemplified leadership as a servant for children.

“We simply cannot thank Rich and Jill enough for their 15 years of faithful service to mission to connect children with families and keep families connected,” said Good Shepherd Board President Michael Nardini.
