2020 Honored Heroes:

The golf tournament has three special honorees this year: Dr. Gordon Gale, Joey Renick Jr.and “Super Thomas” Lorenz. Joey was diagnosed in 1996 with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) at 3 years old.  His cancer returned just before his 18th birthday and then again three years ago.  He was blessed to have a match in his sister and underwent a successful bone marrow transplant that has kept him in remission.  His eight-year-old nephew, “Super Thomas”, was diagnosed with leukemia right after Joey’s transplant.  In the words of “Super Thomas”, in this cancer fight you must “Be brave and fight leukemia!”

Dr. Gordon Gale, the founder of the Team In Training team, Gordon’s Super Crew, has spent over 30 years caring for children as a pediatric oncologist, including both Joey and Thomas.  He has seen firsthand the dramatic improvements due to the result of research laboratories funded by LLS.  In addition, Dr. Gale has lost two good friends to blood cancer, which has made fundraising even more important to him. He tells those interested in fundraising for LLS, “Remember the money raised today will benefit future generations-likely your children or grandchildren.”
