Love Looks Not With the Eyes
Select images will be displayed at Phillip Slein Gallery beginning at 6 p.m. Oct. 16. Photographer Anne Deniau was a part of designer Alexander McQueen’s inner circle and the only photographer with behind-the-scenes access to his collections and shows. The World Chess Hall of Fame will host the American debut of images from Deniau’s book, “Love Looks Not With the Eyes: Thirteen Years with Lee Alexander McQueen,” with an exclusive exhibition of prints at the Phillip Slein Gallery, 4735 McPherson Avenue. Limited edition prints will be for sale at Q Boutique at the World Chess Hall of Fame.
Queen Power: Empowering Girls through Chess
The World Chess Hall of Fame is sponsoring this an educational program developed to encourage girls to play chess. An all-girls chess event with international chess champion and Grandmaster Jennifer Shahade will kick-off the initiative Oct. 16.
The Queen’s Gala at Saks Fifth Avenue
A glittering gala hosted by the World Chess Hall of Fame beginning 7 p.m. Oct. 18. Chaired by Jimmy Jamieson and Jan Goldstein, the evening will include cocktails, dinner, live entertainment and an auction of art and fashion, including rare pieces by Charlie Le Mindu and Alexander McQueen. Special guests include Dukes of Melrose star Cameron Silver, photographer Anne Deniau, and Museum at FIT Director Valerie Steele, among others. Proceeds from the Gala will benefit the World Chess Hall of Fame’s outreach and education programs. Tickets $500 to $750 at www.worldchesshof.org.
A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes, Fashion and Chess
The exhibit opens to the public 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 19 at The World Chess Hall of Fame, 4652 Maryland Avenue. The exhibition will span over 3,000 square feet on two floors at the museum and include fashion, photograph, film and artwork.
A fashion panel discussion at Washington University at 1 p.m., Oct. 19 will be moderated by ABC News’s Deborah Roberts. "A Queen Within" curator Sofia Hedman and Cameron Silver, owner of Decades boutique in Beverly Hills and star of Bravo TV’s "Dukes of Melrose" will participate. Free.
Love Looks Not With the Eyes Book Signing
Photographer Anne Deniau will appear at Saks Fifth Avenue at 10 a.m., Oct. 19 for her first North American book signing of "Love Looks Not With the Eyes: Thirteen Years with Alexander McQueen." Held on the store’s upper level, attendees will have the chance to meet Deniau and purchase her book while enjoying light bites and champagne. A selection of limited-edition prints will be displayed.
