At least five of the record-tying 10 Southeastern Conference teams that made the NCAA Tournament won regionals and will take the next step on the Road to Omaha. No. 2 national seed Florida and No. 5 LSU wrapped up regionals and join fellow SEC members in No. 15 South Carolina, No. 16 Alabama and Tennessee in super regionals beginning Friday. The SEC could advance two more teams.

The Southeastern Conference began four days of meetings on the Florida Gulf Coast for a second straight year, debating what to do with its football schedule. Texas and Oklahoma join the conference next year to make it a 16-team league that is abandoning divisions. The options are sticking with an eight-game slate, but shifting to one annual rivalry game instead of the current two, or going to nine games with three annual rivals.

The numbers suggest that horse racing is the safest it has been for the animals since at least 2009. Yet every death draws fresh criticism that the sport is far too cruel to continue. It also sends every stable into mourning all over again, often out of sight. That grief has been felt in particular with a recent spate of horse deaths at the home of the Kentucky Derby. Twelve horses have died at Churchill Downs over the past month, including two more last week.

Wake Forest is the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament and the Southeastern Conference had a record-tying 10 teams picked to play in regionals. The 64-team tournament opens Friday in 16 regionals. Winners advance to eight best-of-three super regionals. Those winners move on to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The top eight national seeds are assured of hosting super regionals if they win their regionals.

Steve Stricker is two-for-two in senior majors for 2023 after beating Padraig Harrington in a playoff at the Senior PGA Championship. Harrington forced the playoff with a short birdie putt on the par-5 18th. The 51-year-old Irishman found trouble in a replay of the hole. Stricker finished off a routine par, but Harrington couldn’t make the par putt to extend the playoff.

Padraig Harrington is in a tight duel with Steve Stricker going into the final round of the Senior PGA Championship. A double-bogey helped erase a five-shot lead for Harrington, who is one ahead of Stricker in what will be a matchup of opposing Ryder Cup captains from 2021. Harrington shot 68, while Stricker matched Harrington's tournament-low 64 from the opening round. Stewart Cink aced the 191-yard 13th hole and is three shots behind Harrington.

So much for the Block party at Colonial. California club pro Michael Block had a dream week at the PGA Championship when he made a hole-in-one and tied for 15th. He came back to reality in the Charles Schwab Challenge. Block had three double bogeys on the last four holes and shot 81. He in last place in the 120-man field.
