WASHINGTON, Pa. • The Gateway Grizzlies erupted for six runs in the fifth inning to break open a close game and ensure a two-game winning streak heading into the all-star break following a 10-4 victory over the Washington Wild Things before 1,640 fans in a Frontier League game at CONSOL Energy Park.
After they scored a run in the third on an RBI single by D.J. Fitzgerald, the Grizzlies (19-28) sent 12 men to the plate in the fifth.
Kent Gerst got the big inning's scoring started with an RBI single. Joe Agreste's single scored one run and another run scored on the play thanks to an error. Later in the frame, Chris Sedon - fresh off the injured list - smacked a two-run single to make it 6-0 and Brian Harris's bases loaded walk finished the onslaught.
Charlie Lisk added a two-run double in the sixth and Harris got an RBI groundout in the ninth closed the scoring for Gateway.

Fitzgerald continued his torrid hitting since signing with the Grizzlies by leading the 13-hit attack with a 4 for 5 performance. Agreste, Lisk and Landon Hernandez added two hits apiece.
In search of his professional win, Grizzlies starter Jake Donze had a strong outing for 3 2/3 innings, but then had to leave with an apparent injury. Corey Davisson (1-2) relieved him and ended up picking up the victory.
The Frontier League now breaks for a four-day all-star break culminating in Wednesday's all-star game in Avon, Ohio, home of the Lake Erie Crushers. The Grizzlies begin the second half of the season with a 7:05 p.m. game Friday against West Division rival Florence (23-24), which sits four games ahead of fifth-place Gateway.
