Happy Flight, the Rally Squirrel and the Shredder: 11 moments that defined the 2011 St. Louis Cardinals

  • 0

On  Aug. 25, 2011, the St. Louis Cardinals were 10½ games behind Atlanta for a playoff berth. The Cardinals went 23-9 to overtake the Braves for the wild card. They won 18 games in September, and they did not lose a getaway game or lose a single series that month. Cardinals fans haven't seen a closing surge like that until... this season.

"We always felt like this club had a chance to be special," general manager John Mozeliak said in 2011. "I think it really became a message from the players: relax and play your best baseball. To live another day has been our motto for a long time."

We take a look back at 11 moments that defined that championship season.
