Third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who was off to a horrid start, has 18 runs batted in over his last 17 games and a current stretch of eight straight RBI games in which he has knocked in a total of 13. ... But the Giants have thrived on their starting pitching. In their last 10 games, Giants starters have given up only 11 earned runs over 55 2/3 innings for an ERA of 1.78.
Righthander Ryan Vogelsong, starting tonight for the Giants, has a 1-5 regular-season mark against the Cardinals, although that one win was at Busch. And this record does not count his two victories in the 2012 National League championship series when Vogelsong posted a 1.29 ERA. ... Lefthander Jaime Garcia, who starts for the Cardinals tonight, hasn’t walked a batter and has fanned 12 in 12 2/3 innings in his first two starts after coming off the disabled list.
