QUESTION: It looks like Alex Reyes will be of no use for the Cards this year ... AGAIN! The front office has to be growing tired of him not telling them about an injury, and now this? Is it time to package him in a trade before he loses all trade value?
COMMISH: Reyes, by my estimation, will be here some time in June. There's plenty of season left and I'm sure he's learned an important lesson here. If they do, indeed, get nothing out of him this year again, then it might be time to move him.
Follow-up: Would the Cardinals actually consider trading Reyes? It seems like the return for selling him at an all-time low would be nowhere close to making up for the upside he brings.
COMMISH: I think the Cardinals and everybody else would like to see him pitch at the big-league level before such a decision would be made. If Reyes is good enough, and sturdy enough, you keep him.
Follow-up: With latest Reyes setback, do you see the FO signing another starter?
COMMISH: They seem comfortable with their rotation now and with what they have in Memphis in Ponce de Leon, Gomber, Woodford and, yes, Reyes. I don't think an outside signing is uppermost in their minds now.
And, again, Reyes is not out for the season, or anywhere close to that.
