St. Louis University Battles Duquesne University on Senior Night

St. Louis University senior guard Javon Bess was voted the Atlantic 10 defensive player of the year and also made the all-conference second team, it was announced Tuesday.

Sophomore forward Hasahn French made the all-defensive team and the all-conference third team.

Bess has been regularly assigned to defend the top perimeter scorer on the opposing team and has held several top scorers well below their averages. He also is averaging 15.2 points and 6.7 rebounds entering the conference tournament.

French has blocked 55 shots and is rising up the SLU career blocked shot list. He is averaging 9.2 points and 8.4 rebounds overall, but those numbers increased to 10.9 and 8.9 in A-10 play.

Davidson’s Jon Axel Gudmundsson was named the conference player of the year and was joined on the first team by teammate Kellan Grady, Dayton’s Obi Toppin, St. Bonaventure’s Courtney Stockard and VCU’s Marcus Evans.
