The St. Louis University women’s basketball team came to life in the second half Friday night outscoring St. Joseph’s by 17 points to post a 59-44 win over St. Joseph’s in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 tournament.
Kyla McMakin scored 19 points and Brooke Flowers had 12 points and 15 rebounds, sending the Billikens into the semifinals against Rhode Island on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
SLU forced 20 turnovers and turned them into 26 points with Kennedy Calhoun making six steals and Julia Martinez five.
The Billikens struggled offensively in the first half after losing to the Hawks by 24 points. SLU (15-17) has won nine of its last 10 games.
The Billikens trailed 36-32 when they altered the course of the game. They finished the third quarter on a 12-1 run to open a 44-37 lead

Rhode Island beat SLU in their only meeting 76-65 in St. Louis. That was before the Billikens turned their season around two weeks later.
McMakin started Friday’s game slow but made 5 of 9 shots in the second half. The Billikens won with defense in a game that several players were not sharp offensively.
Only three players scored for the Hawks in the second half. They shot 32% and missed all seven of their 3-pointers.
