Offensive tackle Wayne Hunter, acquired in the August 28 trade that sent Jason Smith to the New York Jets, was released Wednesday by the Rams.
Hunter's release was expected; it frees up $4 million in salary cap space for the Rams — money that will come in handy with the free agency period starting next Tuesday.
Hunter appeared in 14 games for the Rams last season. He started four early-season contests at left tackle in place of the injured Rodger Saffold.
