The St. Louis Aces added to their roster of marquee players Tuesday, drafting Anna Kournikova and Mark Philippoussis for their 2011 lineup.
Kournikova, formerly ranked No. 1 in the world in doubles, is making her fourth appearance with the Aces. She will play one home match at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park, as will Philippoussis, making his debut in World TeamTennis.
"He's a good fit with his big serve and his ground strokes," Aces owner Dani Apted said. "And I think he'll be a lot of fun for St. Louis."
Philippoussis, 34, won two titles last year on the Champions Tour, for players 30 and older. He was ranked as high as No. 8 on the men's circuit, won 11 tour singles titles and advanced to two Grand Slam finals, losing to Patrick Rafter in the 1998 U.S. Open and to Roger Federer at Wimbledon in 2003.
The pair join Lindsay Davenport, who announced earlier that she would return for her second season with the Aces. Rick Leach will return to coach the team. The season runs July 4-21, though match dates have not been set. The teams will finalize their lineups March 15.
