Collinsville woman sentenced for stealing cash from county government

A former Madison County worker has been sentenced to probation and time served for stealing more than $88,000.

Zita Lee, of Collinsville, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft for taking $31,237 in permit fees from Madison County and $57,577 from the Edwardsville American Legion. She also pleaded guilty to a count of misconduct.

Lee was a bookkeeper for the Planning and Development Department and kept cash payments made for building permits and other fees, prosecutors said. She was also a bookeeper for the Legion.
