The Ellisville City Council is expected to approve legislation to hold a special election in November to fill the unexpired term of impeached Mayor Adam Paul.
During a May 1 work session, the city council requested legislation be prepared to put the issue on the ballot. The council will vote on the legislation May 15.
The city missed the deadline to put the election on the August ballot.
City Councilman Mick Cahill said he plans to ask the council to vote on a stay of Paul's impeachment. That vote could come May 15.
Paul has filed a lawsuit in St. Louis County Circuit Court asking to overturn the city's action last month to impeach him.
The City Council impeached him for city charter violations such as giving illegal orders to city employees, failing to control meetings, and disclosing city confidences without permission.
