Northwest R-1 School District students whose families meet eligibility requirements will be able to eat breakfast and lunch for free or for reduced rates through a federal program.
Free and Reduced Price School Meals Family Applications are available in the principal's office at each district school. The information requested on the application for the National School Lunch Program and the National School Breakfast Program is confidential.
A complete application includes: (1) household income from all sources or a Food Stamp/Temporary Assistance case number; (2) names of all household members; (3) the signature and Social Security number of the adult household member signing the application.
School offices may verify income at any time during the school year. Foster children may be eligible regardless of the household income where they reside.
As an example of eligibility, a child from a family of five whose total household income is $31,369 or less per year is eligible for free meals, while a student from a family of five whose total household income is $44,461 or less per year is eligible for reduced-price meals.
If a family member's job status or if family size changes, the family should contact the school of the student to file a new application.
