SSM St. Joseph Hospital West has been named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics for excelling in multiple categories related to clinical standards, patient safety and financial stewardship, according to a press release.
St. Joseph Hospital West is the only hospital in Missouri to be selected for the award in 2014.
"To me, this solidifies where we are as an organization in terms of our approach to reducing the total cost of care while improving outcomes and establishing high expectation for our patients," said Lisle Wescott, president of SSM St. Joseph Hospital West. "I am extremely proud that we were the only hospital in Missouri to achieve this honor. It would not be possible without the tremendous talent and dedication of our employees and physicians."
The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities. The information is based on a national balanced scorecard that measures hospital performance in: mortality, inpatient complications, patient safety, average length of stay, expenses, profitability, patient satisfaction, compliance to clinical standards of care, post-discharge mortality, readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure and pneumonia.
The results were compiled by collecting and analyzing public information including Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Center of Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Winning hospitals were announced in the March edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.
St. Joseph Hospital West was also recently recognized by Healthgrades as a 2014 recipient of the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence for a third consecutive year.
