This is your day, and you deserve to look more beautiful than you ever have before.
The entire search can seem a little daunting—white or ivory, sleeveless, strapless, beading, lace, etc. One thing is for sure, though: Keep an open mind. The style in which you pictured yourself may not be right for your body type, so don’t be afraid to try something new. Here are some tips for selecting the perfect gown:

• Bring a pair of shoes similar to the height of the shoes you will wear on your wedding day. This way, it will be easy to tell which gowns are too long, which are too short and what alterations might need to be made.
• Bring your accessories. If you’re planning on wearing Grandma’s pearl necklace, bring it along so you’ll know how it will look with different styles.
• Dress to your body type.

• If you’re petite, high necklines and gloves will make you look taller. Stilettos work, too.
• Tall brides can wear low necklines and low-waisted gowns to even out their proportions. In this case, bypass the stilettos and go for kitten heels or flats.
• Brides with wide hips should steer clear of tiered gowns and anything that hugs the midsection. A-line gowns are perfect and flatter every body type. The ball gown can be tricky; make sure it doesn’t make you look too wide.
• Long bodices will draw attention away from large busts. Avoid cinched waists and go for a V-shaped or high neckline.
• Wide shoulders look fantastic in halter gowns. If you’re really self-conscious about your shoulders, go with a plainer, strapless gown with a long jacket. Remember, bare shoulders won’t stand out as much once you put on your veil.
• A-line and high-waisted gowns slim heavier figures.
• Ruffles and poufy sleeves will only add curves.
