Case 70: Ms. T's two adult children have graduated from high school but her youngest, 16, has lost her way and Ms. T is trying to re-enroll her. She is taking care of her 5-year-old granddaughter because her parents are in jail. Ms. T and her family are living in a shelter because the May tornado destroyed their house. She and her girls are trying their best, and could use some help this holiday season.
Case 71: Ms. C is a 65-year-old grandmother who is the guardian of her two preteen granddaughters. The family lives in a single-family home, and began having financial difficulties when the Ms. C was diagnosed with Stage 3 liver cancer in 2021. She struggles to balance paying for her biweekly treatments and the ongoing specialized medical care she needs with paying for groceries and utilities. Her out-of-pocket medical bills are so high that she is considering declaring bankruptcy. She says that any help offered to her would be a "Godsend to her little family."Â
Case 72: Ms. B tries to help everyone she meets. She works hard, budgets her limited income and uses community resources like food pantries to help out. But she has constant pain due to degenerative arthritis. Then the May tornado hit her apartment, tore off its roof — and she lost everything she owned. Now she's back in her damaged apartment, with a partial roof. Water still leaks through the ceiling, and mold is a problem. She has fallen behind on her bills, is paying full rent, and is working to find another apartment. She would benefit greatly from any assistance to help her move, repair her car, make her doctors appointments, plus help with household items, a new bed and couch, clothing and basic toiletries.Â
