He has significant disabilities and extremely challenging behaviors that require constant care and attention — and so she unable to work outside of her home. She very much wants a job, but she his often called to pick up her son from school. She has no family or support system and she works each day to give her son the best life she can. They face the possibility of eviction and without employment or outside support even the most basic necessities are a struggle. Ms. A and her son would be so appreciative of financial help and it would let them know that they are not alone.Â
Case 92: Mr. and Mrs. O have a blended family of seven children. Two adult sons are in college and the others are between 2 and 16 years old. Mr. O works construction, and the work is sporadic and seasonal. Mrs. O lost her job when their youngest was born. The family's car was hit while it was parked in front of their home and it needs more than $2,600 in repairs, which they can't afford. They've received a disconnection notice on their electric bill and other bills are due, too. The family's refrigerator stopped working and they're trying to keep food cold in coolers, and the washer and dryer are broken. Mr. and Mrs. O and their children could use appliances, beds, blankets, winter coats and help with the car repair.Â
Case 93:Â Ms. H was at her granddaughter's graduation ceremony on May 16 when she got the call that her house had been completely destroyed by the tornado that hit St. Louis that day. Her roof was torn off, the plumbing system was destroyed and the whole back half of the house was open. Ms. H, 57, is raising her grandson, 5, after the boy's mother came to her doorstep, told Ms. H that her son was the boy's father, left the boy with Ms. H and never returned. Ms. H's son hasn't been able to help because he was in a terrible car wreck and broke both of his legs. Ms. H is hoping for some help with bills and giving her grandson, who has been through so much, a good holiday.Â
