Got old TVs gathering dust in the basement, out-of-date computer towers taking up office space, or worn-out appliances sitting in the garage? The City of Manchester is holding its next electronics and metal recycling event on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Schroeder Park, 359 Old Meramec Station Rd.
The drive-thru collection gives residents an eco-friendly way to responsibly dispose of unwanted electronics and scrap metal while supporting local families in need.
Service and vendor details
The collection site is provided by the City of Manchester, with services, collection guidelines, and processing managed by Midwest Recycling Center (MRC). MRC operates under an R2/RIOS-certified zero-landfill policy for electronic waste.

What you can recycle
Free to recycle (most items)
- Computers and tech: Computer towers, laptops, accessories, cables, modems, and hard drives.
- Phones and cameras: Landline phones, cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and related gear.
- Appliances and home metal: Small household appliances, scrap metal, metal office furniture, and lawn and garden equipment (note: all gas and oil must be completely drained prior to drop-off).
- Audio/visual equipment: AV gear, speakers, DVD players, and receivers.
- Specialized gear: Medical, dental, and laboratory equipment (strictly no biohazards).
- Batteries: Standard rechargeable and device batteries (alkaline batteries excluded).
Event fees

While the majority of items are accepted at no charge, MRC charges recycled-item processing fees for specific electronics and coolant-bearing units:
- Freon-containing appliances (refrigerators, AC units, dehumidifiers, freezers): $10.00 each
- CRT computer monitors: $5.00 each
- LED / LCD / plasma TVs: $20.00 each
- CRT TVs (26” or smaller): $30.00 each
- CRT TVs (27” or larger): $50.00 each
- Wood console and true big screen / projection TVs: $50.00 each
Note: Fees are subject to change without prior notice due to fluctuations in the recycling market. Payment must be made on-site by cash or check only.
Prohibited items
MRC cannot accept the following items under any circumstances:
- VHS tapes, data tapes, floppy disks, CDs, or DVDs
- Alkaline batteries
- Light bulbs and fluorescent tubes
- Thermostats, exit signs, or smoke/carbon monoxide detectors
- Capacitors or ballasts not explicitly marked "No PCBs"
- Broken CRT TVs or broken CRT monitors
- Anything leaking oil, powder, or acid (including cracked batteries or leaking ink cartridges)
- Gas containers (freon tanks, oxygen, nitrous oxide) or hazardous waste
- Medical waste of any kind
Essential event guidelines
- Stay in your vehicle: To ensure safety and efficient flow, participants must stay inside their vehicles while in line. MRC staff will handle all unloading directly from your trunk or back seat. Do not hand-carry items to the drop-off zone.
- Strict event hours: Qualifying items will only be accepted between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Dropping off items before or after event hours is strictly prohibited.
- Weather and cancellation notice: If severe weather (snow, ice, storms) is present or forecast or if a scheduling conflict arises at Schroeder Park, the event may be canceled. Cancellations will be posted immediately at www.manchestermo.gov. Canceled events are not rescheduled; recycling will resume at the next regularly scheduled event.
- Right of refusal: MRC and event staff reserve the right to refuse any item that does not meet guidelines or appears unsafe.
Give back while you clean out: Circle of Concern collection
During the event, the City of Manchester will also be collecting donations on behalf of the Circle of Concern Food Pantry.
