One of Webster Groves’ most cherished traditions is back as Community Days returns July 1-4.
This event brings together neighbors and visitors for four days of celebration, entertainment and community spirit.
Declaration of Independence
Webster Groves City Council will host a community reading of the Declaration of Independence at City Hall on Wednesday, July 1, at 6 p.m.
The program will include live music by the Webster Groves High School Band, the planting of a commemorative 250th anniversary tree, and community singing of “This Land is Your Land,” led by Ruby Hasemeier.
Local scout troops are presenting the colors with a 250th anniversary flag for the special occasion.
The Webster Groves Lions Club will host a Fourth of July carnival and BBQ on the grounds of Eden Seminary at Lockwood and Bompart. The midway will be open July 1-3 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. each day and then July 4 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Children’s Pet Pageant
Calling all young animal lovers. The Children’s Pet Pageant is scheduled for Thursday, July 2, at 5 p.m. in the Benny Gordon Recreation Center. The fun-filled competition is open to all kids ages 15 and younger.
Award categories include Best Trick, Pet/Owner Look-A-Like and Best Float. Ribbons and prizes are awarded for first, second and third place in each category.
There is no fee to participate, and pre-registration is not required.
Community Days parade
Presented by Telle Tire & Auto Centers, the parade is the largest annual event in Webster Groves with thousands of spectators lining the streets. The parade will step off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4. Floats travel a two-mile route from the intersection of Lockwood and Mason to Memorial Park near Elm and Glendale.
Independence Day fireworks
Community Days concludes with a massive fireworks display on Saturday, July 4, at 9:15 p.m. A safety zone will be set up around the launch site at Memorial Park, so please wait until the day of the event to reserve your viewing area. The Webster Groves Water Park will be closed on July 4 due to the fireworks.
