Students from Vashon High School recently represented Saint Louis Public Schools on the national stage at the Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) National Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, earning a top 10 finish in the nation in the JAG Promo Video competition.
Held April 29 through May 2, the conference brought together some of the top JAG chapters from 32 states for leadership development, career readiness competitions, and networking opportunities.
Vashon advanced to the national competition after earning first place in Missouri earlier this year in the JAG Promo Video category. The accomplishment marked a historic first for Saint Louis Public Schools, as Vashon became the first SLPS school to advance to the national stage in any JAG competition category.
Representing Vashon at the conference were graduating seniors and student leaders Deandrea Hemphill, Career Association president; Jaylen Adams, vice president of leadership development; and Eugene Alexander, parliamentarian. Students participated in competitive events, leadership sessions, and collaborative experiences focused on communication, teamwork, and professional growth.
Their national top 10 finish highlights the strength of Vashon’s JAG program and the dedication of the students and staff who helped prepare them for the opportunity.
Saint Louis Public Schools congratulates the students and JAG specialist Shelonda Williams for their leadership, hard work, and representation of both Vashon and the St. Louis community on the national stage.
